Application Procedures

  • Preliminary Application (PDF file): The Endorsement process begins when a potential candidate downloads the Preliminary Application. The candidate returns the Application, along with the application fee, to the ITMHCA, Endorsement.

Upon review of the application, ITMHCA confirms at which level the candidate is qualified to apply and sends an email confirming receipt of the application and fee with instructions to review Competencies and Requirements for the specified Level. The candidate is given a password to download the Portfolio e-form. An Advisor will be assigned. The candidate will then create his/her professional portfolio and arrange (if applying at Level 3 or 4) to take the written examination.
    .
  • Portfolio e-form (password required): The portfolio packet consists of a list of your educational experience accompanied by official transcripts for all college courses, degrees and/or certificates; a list of all in-service training experiences identifying how each training matches any of the Competencies; a list of all paid work experiences with/related to infants, toddlers, caregivers and families; reflective supervision experiences (as appropriate); three professional reference ratings; and a signed Code of Ethics.

An Endorsement fee (depending on Level) accompanies submission of the portfolio packet. Scholarships are available to assist with the Endorsement fee - download the scholarship application form here (Word file).
    .
  • The submitted portfolio packets are reviewed for candidates at all Levels. Based on review, the Endorsement Review Team makes recommendations to the Endorsement Committee for Endorsement at Levels 1 & 2.
    .
  • For candidates applying at Levels 3 & 4, the portfolio packets are reviewed to determine eligibility to sit for the written exam. The written exam is a 3-hour exam offered twice a year and is based on the identified competencies at Levels 3 & 4.
    .
  • Following completion of the written exam, the Endorsement Review Team reviews the exam with the professional portfolio packet and makes recommendation to the Committee regarding endorsement.
    .
  • Endorsement Renewal: ITMHCA encourages continuing professional growth and development for all members. The Coalition requires providers who have successfully completed the ITMHCA Endorsement at all levels to continue membership in ITMHCA and to participate annually in 15 hours of culturally sensitive, relationship-based training experiences that promote infant mental health practice. Participation in Reflective Supervision/Consultation is expected at Levels 2, 3 & 4.
